We have implemented a co-ordinate strategy to Engineering, Engagement and Education.


Engineering

The North Wales Police will be working closely with the highways authorities and other agencies to seek to rectify problem locations where identified and to advise in the construction of new roads.

The North Wales Police are committed to seek to improve not only the quality of our roads, but also the safety.

North Wales has some of the best biking roads in Britain and we welcome everybody to the area. All that we ask is that users act in a legal and responsible manner.


Engagement

BikeSafe is prepared and eager to engage with the motorcycle community at any events or venues and indeed can be witnessed quite often around popular motorcycle haunts ready to discuss issues with other riders. 

BikeSafe practitioners, along side other agencies, are looking forward to providing an attendance at dealership open days, dealership risk assessments and conducting dealership surgeries.

North Wales Police developed the North Wales Motorcycle Alliance (NWMA) in 1997. The NWMA represent a wide selection of the motorcycle community. The membership consists of organisations who value being able to debate and assist in reducing casualties and the overall quality of riding within North Wales. They believe that riding is not just a social activity but a true environmentally friendly alternative to other forms of transport especially now that our roads are so congested and parking restricted. Safe, responsible riding is of paramount importance. The Alliance sees BikeSafe as a valuable asset. Other members of the Alliance are Dealers, Trainers, Clubs, IAM, RoSPA, BMF, MAG, Road Safety Groups, Charities, Fire and Ambulance Services etc. By a joint approach these members influence and constructively challenge issues affecting motorcycling.

Education

North Wales Police have provided education for many years in one form or another but developed the 'BikeSafe' initiative along side its colleagues around the country to offer a structured facility. North Wales BikeSafe provides workshops mainly between March and October each year. Other activity continue throughout the year. Workshops are designed to 'Bridge the Gap' between passing a test and continued instruction. They are suitable for all classes of rider but most suitable for those who lack confidence, experience and/or knowledge of Road Craft. The workshops also have a specific 'BikeSafe First Aid' inclusion. Attendants receive information through theory and practical experience. There will be an opportunity for assessment and demonstration in order to evidence how and why road management skill is a must.

Besides the workshops the Co-ordinator is happy to provide lectures, attend events and open to consult with any agency which requires advice or assistance in casualty reduction.

North Wales BikeSafe are providing 'BikeSafe First Aid' sessions. They are run under licence to 'FBoS' (First Bike on Scene). They're to be run by professional paramedics who are motorcyclists.

Anyone attending an FBoS course will receive a certificate from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
