Video helps mark 25th anniversary of BikeSafe motorcycle improvement scheme
Motorcycle safety scheme BikeSafe has launched a new video promoting the popular initiative to help mark its 25th anniversary.
BikeSafe offers motorcyclists access to post-test training with advanced police motorcyclists to equip them with additional skills designed to help them stay safe on the roads.
The new video, available in both English and Welsh languages, provides an informative overview of the workshops – which are held across the UK and in the Republic of Ireland and offer a mixture of eLearning, a facilitated theory class, an observed ride and a comprehensive debrief.
And with the weather and riding conditions starting to change and become more challenging as we head into the autumn and winter months, now might be the perfect time for all riders – whether experienced or novice – to brush up on their roadcraft and riding skills.
Deputy Chief Constable Simon Blatchly, who leads the NPCC Motorcycle Portfolio and BikeSafe, said: “I know that riding a motorbike is a real passion for so many people and brings a sense of freedom like nothing else. But however long you have been riding, there is still room for improvement.
“All of us could benefit from an opportunity to enhance our skills and that’s where BikeSafe comes in. It offers riders the chance to perfect their craft in an informal setting by spending time with fellow bike enthusiasts who have completed enhanced level training in the police.
“This new video offers a snapshot of what a BikeSafe workshop entails, and shows the real benefits it can bring. We continually receive fantastic feedback from those who have attended a BikeSafe event and know that it is helping to equip riders with the additional skills they need to help them stay safe on our roads.
“Take a look today and see when your nearest BikeSafe course is – you won’t regret it.”
Earlier this year, BikeSafe joined forces with UKROEd to assist with the governance, administration and quality product development of the scheme.
A successful first season of this new arrangement sees BikeSafe now operating in 37 police force areas across the UK and Ireland with plans to grow the scheme even more over the coming months.
UKROEd Chief Executive Ruth Purdie OBE said: “The new video is an excellent demonstration of the value of the BikeSafe courses and really outlines how riders can receive vital learning, helpful tips and quality feedback on their riding in a relaxed environment.
“There are still several workshops planned around the country before we finish for the year, so I’d highly recommend anyone who hasn’t been on a course yet to sign up with their local provider.”
