Final BikeSafe workshop of 2024 with Northumbria Police
An enjoyable day riding some of the best roads in Northumberland
Saturday 16th November saw the last BikeSafe workshop being delivered by the Northumbria Police Motorcycle Team. Although it was November the weather was kind which allowed those taking part to have an enjoyable day riding some of the best roads in Northumberland. The day started with a classroom presentation before taking to the roads and riding from Cramlington to Rothbury for lunch. After lunch we headed to Kielder before returning to West Hartford Fire Station covering 100 miles in total.
Significant decrease in collisions
2024 has been a busy and exciting year for the team with Police Motorcycles being reintroduced back into Roads Policing after they were withdrawn from service in 2009.
Since June 2024 the team have delivered 21 workshops to 114 attendees where we have worked with our partners from Northumberland Fire and Rescue who have hosted the workshops at West Hartford Community Fire Station in Cramlington.
Although the impact of delivering BikeSafe workshops is hard to measure, it is clear that since the introduction of Police Motorcycles and BikeSafe, collisions involving road legal motorcycles within the Northumbria Police Force area have significantly decreased in comparison to previous years.
BikeSafe is not only an excellent way of upskilling riders but it offers officers the opportunity to provide a high visibility presence on the counties roads whilst delivering the workshops. Officers have also used the opportunity to engage with the motorcycle community, promoting road safety and BikeSafe where the feedback has been nothing but positive.
We’d like to thank everyone who has joined us on the workshops this year and also the BikeSafe Team for all of their support and advice during our first year. We are looking forward to doing it all again in 2025!
