Following a police motorcyclist road positioning
Much learned about road positioning by following a police motorcyclist
I attended the Bikesafe workshop in August 2023 after passing my test in June. I would like to thank Shaun, the other officers, and Warwickshire Police for making the course fun and engaging. The workshop far exceeded my expectations, I learned so much during the course about hazard awareness and the delivery of information in the theory session was excellent.
When it came to the observed ride, we spent a good 3-4 hours on the bike covering about 100 miles. The ratio of 1:2 was perfect, it meant that I had enough time being assessed and a bit of a break.
I decided to follow my BikeSafe Observer at one point. I have never ridden so smooth and at such consistent speeds. I learned so much just by following a police motorcyclist’s road positioning and had so much fun in the process. Police Officers are humans too 😊
Having completed BikeSafe, I am a very different rider to the one I was before the workshop – with a different, safer, and more skilful perspective out on the roads now.
I’d recommend this workshop regardless of your skill level. It would be nice to see more women attending BikeSafe, especially having learned that I was only the 4th female to attend Warwickshire BikeSafe this year – Laura, attended Warwickshire BikeSafe, August 2023.
