Motorcycle skills workshops for Staffordshire motorcyclists
Little did I know how much information I would learn
Dear BikeSafe, I would like to say a huge thank you for the opportunity to attend your workshop at Stafford Police HQ. I really wasn’t prepared for the breadth of motorcycle skills covered by the team during the day. Barry and the team were very welcoming and a great group of Gents that made the day fun to attend although not forgetting that we were there to learn how to improve our riding ability.
During my career as a service engineer covering the UK and the last 30 years in sales driving successfully throughout the UK, Europe and the USA I thought my road skills would transfer well to a motorcycle and after a 42-year break from biking I bought a new Triumph Trident 12 months ago and thought I would attend BikeSafe to brush up on my skills. Little did I know how much information I would learn on the day even after watching your e-learning course and many YouTube videos over the last year.
I immediately felt more confident and in control of my motorcycle
The classroom section in the morning was excellent with comments from all the team helping us to understand the videos and the message to learn from each one. We then went out in the afternoon, and I had Jim doing the observed ride where we experienced most road types from narrow twisty lanes to motorway riding. After a nervous start having a police officer following me, he put me at ease after the first stage and gave great feedback on my riding style which I was happy to put into practice on the next stage and I immediately felt more confident and in control of my motorcycle – particularly in corners and with my road positioning.
I leaned so much, particularly with cornering, using the limit point, maintaining a positive throttle, road positioning, enhanced observation and better bike stability and I now get even more joy from riding.
I have just got my copy of the Motorcycle Roadcraft book and looking to book further training to add to what I learned on the day. Once again, a huge thanks to Staffordshire Police and their BikeSafe team and I would recommend any biker to attend a workshop be they a new rider or an experienced rider without training.
