PSNI Ladies Day for Celtic Sisterhood
All-female BikeSafe workshop
On 20 September 2019 the PSNI BikeSafe team welcomed riders from the Celtic Sisterhood Motorcycle Club to Transport Training Services at Nutt’s Corner, Co Antrim for an all-female BikeSafe workshop.
Throughout the morning, time was spent in a classroom environment looking at some advanced riding theory, including aspects of cornering, junctions and overtaking. After an excellent lunch in the TTS canteen the “Sisters” took to the roads accompanied by Advanced Police Motorcycle Observers. It was a perfect afternoon for a ride-out with dry roads and bright sunshine. At the end of the day each rider received written and verbal feedback on their biking skills followed by the awarding of a nationally recognised BikeSafe certificate.
Ooh er missus
11 of us attended the PSNI BikeSafe course at Nutts Corner transport training centre! It started in the class room at 9:30 and finished at 12:30 when we all went for lunch. A very informative morning and two police bike riders gave us some useful information on how to handle different road situations and to always be on alert. After lunch we were set into pairs and assigned a police biker to accompany us round the different roads. One rider went first, the police then the second rider. Halfway round we stopped and the police man gave us some feedback on our riding then we swapped positions and carried on. A few were lucky enough to stop for tea/coffee. Others not so fortunate. Probably cos we were that awesome there was nothing the man couldn’t tell us. In fact we were that good that one of the police forgot he had a \’student\’ with him and pulled someone over! God knows what the driver was doing. Anyway some of us had a blue light escort and God knows what other road users thought when they seen a burly peeler with two beautiful girls at the side of the road…Ooh er missus. Some got to go a bit further than others (all clean mind). Some of us were brought back to the centre while others were left off at their onward journey.
We had a fantastic day and it was all very relaxed. Though I think at the offset we were all a bit nervous to be observed by professional riders. Some of us gained some good knowledge and some of us were given a confidence boost. An excellent day and if it comes round again it really is worthwhile doing.
