PSNI BikeSafe is working hard to provide the gift of a skills check-up
The Police Service of Northern Ireland BikeSafe team discuss how the core issues of cornering, junctions and overtaking, are central to a significant increase in serious motorcycle accidents since 2019. With the busy months ahead, road racing and more riders being drawn to the The North West 200 routes, PSNI BikeSafe is working hard to provide the gift of a ‘skills check-up’.
The PSNI BikeSafe Team were delighted to be the focus of the BBC’s Crime NI feature on motorcycle safety. The piece was recorded at one of the first workshops in Northern Ireland this year with some excellent footage of the magnificent Causeway Coast Route, one of the top coastal motorcycling roads in Europe. The article, which features PSNI BikeSafe Coordinator, PC Trevor Kirke and PSNI Motorcycle Lead, Inspector Gareth McCartney, highlights the need for motorcyclists to hone their skills and maintain their machine as we enter peak biking season. It is especially relevant right now in the run-up to the famous North West 200 road races which sees over 150,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world descend on Antrim’s north coast
