In Hampshire and the Isle of Wight statistics show that 65% of all motorcycle collisions happen at or near a junction. In many cases these collisions occur because other road users fail to appreciate the path or presence of an oncoming motorcycle and carry out a manoeuvre in front of them, but equally motorcyclists are often at fault for filtering down the right hand side of vehicles turning right.
Rather than laying blame solely with other vehicle drivers, many of these collisions could have been avoided by riders using a simple plan to deal with hazards appropriately and by taking better responsibility for their own safety. These issues are covered during the BikeSafe course so motorcyclists can gain more confidence, improve their abilities and get more enjoyment from riding. [book workshop]
