You are here: BikeSafe / Northumbria
Northumbria Police are proud to offer BikeSafe workshops – an opportunity for riders to experience a professional police observed ride with an advanced police motorcyclist. With Northumbria BikeSafe, participants will learn about the significant benefits of investing further time in post-test motorcycle training (IAM, RoSPA, BMF and the DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme). Ongoing training is the key to becoming a safer, more skilled rider and with this is the added benefit that riding a motorcycle becomes more enjoyable. We also fully understand that with time invested in quality post-test training, comes less rider risk and reductions in motorcycle casualty statistics. Join Northumbria Police by booking a place on one of our Northumbria BikeSafe workshops. The benefits cannot be measured!
Workshop content
Northumbria Bikesafe workshops are an intensive but thoroughly enjoyable one-day format. Workshops have a limited number of riders per session. Our workshops are open to all types of rider with a full bike licence. The doors open at 08:45 for tea/coffee and registration, with the classroom element starting at 09:00. The day finishes by 16:30. We ride in almost any weather except thick fog, ice or snow. Please ensure you have a full tank of fuel and either bring your own packed lunch or funds to buy your own food/refreshments later in the day.
Northumbria BikeSafe begins with a relaxed classroom session, delivered by one of our advanced police motorcyclists, during which you are encouraged to take part and share your experiences. We will discuss advanced riding skills and techniques based on the police manual of riding (Roadcraft), motorcycle control and some of the common causes of collisions.
You are then off on your observed ride with an Advanced Police Motorcyclist. During your observed ride, you will have breaks from riding and your observer will give you feedback. Northumbria BikeSafe observed rides usually last for three hours (this includes breaks for debriefs). The day concludes with a full debrief from your observer.
